Pathways for Hong Kong Residents

Are you a Hong Kong resident looking for a new life in Canada? The Canadian Government has announced continued support for Hong Kong residents who want to immigrate to Canada.

Currently there are two pathways to Permanent Residence for eligible Hong Kong residents and their families. Qualifying Hong Kong residents, who have either worked or studied in Canada, may receive Permanent Residence under one of the following pathways:

Stream A – In Canada Graduates

Applicant must have graduated with a degree, diploma (2 years or longer), or graduate or post-graduate diploma or certificate for a program (1 year or longer) from a post-secondary designated learning institution in Canada within the last 3 years.
Be physically present in Canada when the application for Permanent Residence is made and when the applicant gets Permanent Residence.
Have valid temporary resident status in Canada.
Meet the language requirements of CLB 5 in English or NCLC 5 in French.
Intend to live in Canada, in any province or territory other than the province of Quebec.

Stream B – Canadian Work Experience

Has been open to applicant who has graduated with a degree, diploma (2 years or longer), or graduate or post-graduate credential (1 year or longer) from a post-secondary learning institution in Canada or abroad, within the last 5 years. As of August 15, 2023, this education requirement will be removed! As long as the applicant has gained one year of work experience in Canada he/she can apply for PR via Stream B.
Have at least 1 year of work experience in Canada within the last 3 years.
Have a valid temporary resident status in Canada.
Meet the language requirements of CLB 5 in English or NCLC 5 in French.
Intend to live in Canada, in any province or territory other than the province of Quebec.

Accompanying spouse can apply for an open work permit and minor children can have access to pre-school, primary and secondary education in Canada if one of their parents is authorized to work or study in Canada.

EXTENDED WORK PERMIT FOR HONG KONG RESIDENTS

Hong Kong residents who have graduated with a Canadian post-secondary diploma (2-year program)/ degree, or equivalent foreign credential, in the past 10 years, can apply for open work permit.
